Multimodality Imaging of Angiogenesis

چکیده
Angiogenesis is an important biological process that is also related to various diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. Currently, the need for angiogenesis imaging is increasing due to the use of anti-angiogenic therapy to treat tumors, and of angiogenesis-inducing therapy to treat vascular diseases. Several techniques can be used to visualize angiogenesis related parameters at the structural, functional, and molecular level, although clinically, most techniques involve structural or functional imaging. However, structural and functional parameters do not completely represent angiogenic activity, because they evaluate angiogenesis indirectly by measuring structural and functional changes. Molecular imaging techniques can be used to evaluate bio-markers directly related to angiogenesis, but have only recently been applied in clinical practice. It is now evident that assessment of angiogenesis at several different levels provides valuable information which could be used to individualize therapy and improve

Multimodality molecular imaging of tumor angiogenesis.
Molecular imaging is a key component of 21st-century cancer management. The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)/VEGF receptor signaling pathway and integrin alpha v beta 3, a cell adhesion molecule, play pivotal roles in regulating tumor angiogenesis, the growth of new blood vessels. This review summarizes the current status of tumor angiogenesis imaging with SPECT, PET, molecular MRI, ta...

The cell adhesion molecule integrin αvβ3 is an important player in the process of tumor angiogenesis and metastasis. Antibodies, peptides, peptidomimetics, and small molecule antagonists against integrin αvβ3 have been shown to induce endothelial apoptosis, to inhibit tumor angiogenesis, and to increase endothelial permeability. The ability to quantitatively image integrin αvβ3 expression in vi...

Imaging approaches that visualize molecular targets rather than anatomic structures aim to illuminate vital molecular and cellular aspects of atherosclerosis biology in vivo. Several such molecular imaging strategies stand ready for rapid clinical application. This review describes the growing role of in vivo optical molecular imaging in atherosclerosis and highlights its ability to visualize a...
متن کاملMultimodality Imaging in Tumor Angiogenesis: Present Status and Perspectives
Angiogenesis is a complex biological process that plays a central role in progression of tumor growth and metastasis. It led to a search for antiangiogenic molecules, and to design antiangiogenic strategies for cancer treatment. Noninvasive molecular imaging, such as positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), could be useful for lesion detection, ...
متن کاملMultimodality Imaging of Tumor Angiogenesis: Perfusion Modeling for Tumor Angiogenesis
When a tracer, such as Gd-doped or iodinated extracellular contrast, is introduced into the blood stream of a patient its transport through the vascular system, heart and lungs and eventual excretion via the kidneys is a well-established process [1,2]. At the level of the imaging voxel (for example, in the centre of a breast tumor) we can only speculate as to the precise nature of the tracer ki...
